When High Sierra is being installed it converts the file system on the boot drive over to the new Apple File System (APFS). Therefore, if you plan to install High Sierra on a SSD or NVME you will be automatically converted from HFS to APFS, while those who are using spinning disk drives will remain on HFS as APFS is designed only for fast solid storage drives. APFS can be used on a hackintosh, but it requires some files to be added to the EFI partition before High Sierra is installedto boot.
With MacOS X High Sierra 10.13 Apple moved from MacOS Extended (Journaled) also known as HFS+ to a new disk format Apple File System known as APFS that allows higher performance on state of the art solid state drives (SSD).From MacOS X High Sierra and newer all internal system SSD's are automatically formatted as APFS volumes without the option to format them as the older HFS+.
Do I have to use APFS?

I was able to get APFS working without noticing any immediate side affects other than the fact that booting and waking feels a little slower. There may be issues in the future, because as hackintoshers we don't have the custom firmware that Apple devices use to handle errors and stuff.

When you update or install High Sierra the normal way, all SSD and NVME drives are converted to the APFS. However, without the necessary files in your boot partition you wont be able to boot a APFS converted drive on a hackintosh. For those of you who want to be early adapters as well as those who just want to try it out for the time being I wrote this for you:
Enabling APFS Booting
- Download APFS.efi
- Mount the EFI Partition of your Boot Device
- Place APFS.efi in EFI/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI
- You now should be able to boot a APFS drive after installing High Sierra
Note: These .efi files will cause a black screen with text to flash momentarily before you enter the Clover Menu on boot.
Note: If you ever want to fresh install macOS High Sierra on a drive only the partition macOS is being installed on will be converted over to APFS. Do not format your entire drive as APFS, because you wont be able to access the EFI Partition for hackintoshing with the current EFI mounters available. You still want to format the entire drives partition table as GUID.
These instructions only apply to Mac computers with an Intel processor.
Erasing your Mac deletes all of its files permanently, so make sure you make a backup of any files that you want to keep. If you're attempting to restore your Mac to factory settings, first find out what to do before you sell, give away or trade in your Mac.
Start up from macOS Recovery
Turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold these two keys until you see an Apple logo or other image: Command (⌘) and R. You may then be asked to select a user you know the password for. How to add chrome. Select the user, then click Next and enter their administrator password.
Use Disk Utility to erase your disk
- From the utilities window in macOS Recovery, select Disk Utility and click Continue.
- Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar of Disk Utility. Can't see Macintosh HD?
- Click the Erase button in the toolbar, then enter the requested details:
- Name: continue to use Macintosh HD as the name or enter a different name.
- Format: continue to use APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journalled), as recommended by Disk Utility.
- Click Erase Volume Group. If you can't see this button, click Erase instead.
- If Find My is turned on for this Mac, you may be asked to enter your Apple ID to authorise the erase process. Forgotten your Apple ID?
- After the erase process has been completed, select any other internal volumes that may be listed in the sidebar, then click the delete volume (–) button in the toolbar to delete each volume.
You don't need to delete the Macintosh HD volume you've just erased, or any external volumes or disk images. - Quit Disk Utility to return to the utilities window.
- If you want to start up again from the disk you've erased, you should now reinstall macOS on that disk.
